Wow, I Cannot Be Trusted!

December 10th, 2007

applebeesSo I go ahead and tell you all that I’ll be updating more regularly… yeah right! Like that’s ever gonna happen. If I updated more often I wouldn’t be bombarded with all these new things I have to write about. One main point of interest is that, as of last night, I am no longer and employee of Applebee’s. It was a great send-off… cake, gifts, and a wonderful card. Here’s to everybody that made that 8 year trek an enjoyable one: Thank You! Well, I work at Traffic Safety Consultants doing full-time Web Administration. It’s a great gig with great people. I’m moving on and up. It’s a great feeling, although I will miss all the friends I had to say goodbye to. I’ll really try to update. I’ve been so busy working on other people’s sites as well as design projects that my time is just so limited right now. Thanks for staying true to the J-Man! Rock On!

Great New Music

August 8th, 2007

If you know me, you might just know how much I appreciate real rock music. None of this over-produced, cookie-cutter music that’s all over the daytime radio. I came across this band whilst on my way to Bob’s Big Boy in my buddy TJ’s 4 Runner. The band is Bayside and they’ve been around for only a short time; managing to put out an album each year since 2004. Basically, it’s really great rockin’ music with some face-melting solos thrown into the mix. I suggest you check out the album: The Walking Wounded, or at least the track in the “In My CD Player” section on the right. Rock On!

Design Updates

July 13th, 2007

Two new things to tell you about. The first is a page devoted to the final edit of MacReubenstein. You can view it in all it’s 1970’s glory here. The second order of business is to let you guys know of my new on-going art and design blog called DynamiteArt. I will be updating the art blog as often as I complete work, but that’s the catch… I’m hoping this blog keeps me on track with completing various works of art in a timely fashion. Also, even though it may seem so, I’m not trying to plaster myself all over the Internet, rather I am organizing the various aspects of my digital life into their own rightful place. Rock On! Here’s a breakdown:

More Than Meets The Eye

July 6th, 2007

Alright, so I don’t get out much… especially to the movies. But I saw Transformers today and just had to write about it. Wowza, this film is hands down incredible to say the very least. I don’t mean to hype Transformers up but I was just so satisfied with it. There were times of corniness and times of intense action; and it all made for a perfect mix of movie magic. And it’s great how it pays homage to the original series very subtly throughout. Also, check out the intense J.J. Abrams “secret” trailer during the film’s previews. It stirs up a lot of questions, and it doesn’t even have a name yet! Only a super-secret-code-title: Cloverfield. Rock On!

Mac Attack

July 6th, 2007

So it’s official. I’m now a “Mac man” in addition to my first love: the PC. Over the weekend I had purchased a MacBook, and for those that want to know: no, I didn’t get a Pro… yet. It’s incredible; new operating system interfaces, PC to Mac networking, dual monitor capabilities… it’s a nerd’s dream. Check out my new “super creative workspace” here. I’m mobile now, so you might just see me at your nearest coffee shop. Cliché? Yes. Ironically un-hip? Perhaps. Do I care? Not one bit! Hope to see you ‘puter nerds soon. Rock On!

Job Hunt and Then Some!

June 26th, 2007

Man, finding a job in this town (or the neighboring 12 ‘towns’ for that matter) sure ain’t easy. I’ve been working very hard though, really tweaking my portfolio, but of course taking the necessary steps not to go crazy during my first incredibly-care-free summer. I’m not planning much, just enjoying the time with my family and friends. Also, if you didn’t know, my birthday happens to be tomorrow. Yes, I’ll be the big ‘deuce-cuatro’ (that’s 24 for all the laymen out there). Life sure is flashing by. Not in a bad way, but it’s interesting to see how fast time goes by. You better believe I’m seizin’ the day though! In fact I’m buying a MacBook in the next couple weeks. So watch out all you crazy coffee shops and free wi-fi spots, J-Miller is goin’ wireless! Rock On!

Finally!!!

May 26th, 2007

School’s out my friends! And on Wednesday May 30th at 6:30 pm I graduate! I can’t wait. It’s been such a long ride and it’s finally over. Now I start looking for a job and getting on with the rest of my life. I can’t wait for new things to come, it’s gonna be so interesting. Noteworthy: my online portfolio “Justin B Miller” is up an running. Check it out, tell your friends. I’m an aspiring designer, I do great work, promise. Also, I’ve recorded an acoustic cover of The Beatles’ If I Fell, go to Audio or just click Here. I love the song, as with many others of theirs, but this just came out first. Rock On!

Wow, I’m Actually Updating

May 6th, 2007

So the past month has been quite interesting to say the least. I gotta say that April was definitely the year 2007’s month-of-menstruation out of sheer personal experience. In other words, lots of crazy and important things going on; each making me a bit more crazy and emotional… but of course it’s all worth it. Crunch time is here as far as CSUN is concerned. I have about 3 weeks left of an era of my life that I’m about to say farewell to. But I must keep my eyes open to the fact that a new chapter is about to be written. Scary? Yes. Exciting? Very. Worth every second? You better believe it. Here’s to all those sitting on the edge of their seat and on the edge of reality. It’s a tough road, but we’re strong and we’re getting through this! Rock On!

MacReubenstein is Finished!

Ye Olde Update

March 30th, 2007

So things have been going very well. School’s still tough; I can’t stand my Media and Diversity class (but that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms). Aside from that it’s Spring Break and I can’t wait to relax. I’ve got a power-packed week full of exercise and physical activity. The MacReubenstein shoot went great. The footage has all been cut down to a rough edit. All I have left to do is some sweetening and final touches on the post-production side. I know you’ll love the soundtrack. It’s nothing short of being amazingly stupendously great. No lie. Anywho, I gotta get ready for work. I start applying for real jobs mid April. Wish me luck! Rock On!

“Tonight We Dine In Hell!”

March 9th, 2007

So I saw the midnight screening of 300 tonight at Regal; quick checklist… Hard Rock Battle Music : Check, Moments of Comic Relief : Check, Inordinate Amounts of Blood : Check, Impending Doom : …you get the picture. As my buddy Tanner put it so eloquently “this was the best movie I’ve seen to date.” In my own opinion, it was good, real good, yet I wouldn’t go as far as saying the best movie to date, but the entire movie-going experience couldn’t be matched. Not only that, but it teaches you about history as well! What a well-rounded movie. This is definitely a Justin Miller approved date flick, psych! Rock On!

MacReubenstein

February 19th, 2007

We’ve begun our semester-long projects of completing an entire short film, from start to finish. My film will be called MacReubenstein. It’s a 1970’s cop drama about a rogue officer that just went a bit too far for that very last time. It’s a lovely action story of redemption and personal satisfaction. I can’t wait until it’s complete. The film is only a 3 minute piece but the quality and effects of the physical film itself will make it utterly amazing. Just you wait and see. Ruby’s comin’. Rock On!

It’s the FOB!

February 19th, 2007

Alright alright, I’ve never really been into Fall Out Boy but I just got their new album and it rocks so hard it could knock Old Man Withers clear out of his chair. What I mean is that this is a great set of songs that really shows how much they’ve grown in their song writing abilities. The first track (Thriller) really throws you into some rockin’… even with Jay-Z spouting some words to the fans. My favorite track has gotta be number nine (The [After] Life of the Party). Check it out in the “In My CD Player” sidebar. Rock On!

My Last Semester

February 1st, 2007

So my last semester has officially begun. It won’t be the easiest but it will definitely be the most fun. Aside from a couple core classes I have to take, the remaining few are all production classes that have some awesome projects. The project I’m most excited about is the 3-5 minute film project for my Streaming Media course. This is the whole enchilada; it’s going to utilize our production skills from concept to completion and has the potential to be entered in the Media Showcase. Let’s just say my idea has to do with the 1970’s… and cops… what else do you need, honestly. Rock On!

Winter Freeze

January 7th, 2007

My Winter break is in full swing, and of course that means that school has to sneak its ugly little head in. My Online History course offered through College of the Canyons started yesterday and the workload is intense: let’s just say 10 essays, 2 papers, and a 200 question test in 22 days… I’m gonna be busy. On the other hand it’s been very relaxing here. We just had another “Numa Numa” party at my Uncle Jerry’s house. Great turnout! I’ll have the videos up as soon as I rip ‘em from the DVD. Rock On!

The Site’s Back Up

December 19th, 2006

Ok finally! Since Thursday this thing’s been down. I guess my conspiracy-theory wasn’t too far-fetched. The government is onto the ‘experience. My knowledge of everything insanely awesome has been compromised. Seems like I’m going to have to upload new videos and graphics or brave another “happening” with the government. Expect some new content up in Artistry. Rock On!

Am I a Skeptic or Just Paranoid?

December 19th, 2006

There’s a thin line between skepticism and paranoia. It’s really hard to define exactly where one ends and the other begins; and even more difficult to notice the simple drift between the two. Today I had a couple experiences that made me think to myself “…am I a skeptic or just paranoid?”

I was at “America’s Tire” getting a quote when the gentleman, whose name was Brian (a name many of my trustworthy friends have, mind you) helped me to determine a tire size and price that matched my budget. Everything was fine up until he said he’d personally call the competition to beat their quote. Now I know this is standard practice for many business, and the tire business is no exception, but for some reason it rubbed me the wrong way when he said he’d be right back. He stepped into a room behind the counter very secretly. Brian then swiftly reappeared and shut the door; he called “Big Brand Tire” and the conversation was very short. “2002… Tacoma… 225 60 R15… yeah… just under $400? ok, thanks” That was it, convo over. So they magically had the same exact price. Now you can see where I doubt my status on skepticism and paranoia.

Later in the afternoon I was having problems with my website so I decided to call LunarPages, my domain service. I got on the phone with the representative that helped me to transfer over from DotEasy; Aaron is his name… nice fella. Anyways, he directs me to tech support, which, as everybody knows, is like pulling teeth. I had to listen to distorted Christmas tunes that sounded like they were being broadcast through a straw. Finally, I got on the phone with a techie. He reviewed my problem of not being able to access my website from certain computers. This was his reply in that conspicuous, I might be reading off of a paper, tone: “Oh, Mr. Miller, I see the problem right here. It says we have been having a network issue on your server. That explains why some computers can view it and some cant… they’re on differing networks; on this note I received, it says the problem will be resolved soon.” Sounded a bit too technical to me so I left it at that and said thanks.

So that’s my story of doubt. It made me realize there’s not much between being skeptical and paranoid. I think I’ll go crazy if I think about it too much, which is step 3, so I’ll stop here. Rock On!

My New Blog!!!

December 14th, 2006

I’ve finally created a blog for my site! I basically hacked apart the css and php files of a WordPress blog. What does that mean to you? Absolutely nothing! But what does it mean for me!? A fully customized blog for the experience. UPDATES: Check out the new photo viewer I made in Flash, just click Photos. Also, new media up soon in Artistry; I’ve made a few websites this semster worthy of my portfolio, so check back. Rock On!

Band Practice

November 18th, 2006

It went really well tonight. I picked a song to add to the Kouno-Winter-Extravaganza setlist after hearing it at work. We were listening to the golden oldies and Del Shannon’s ‘Runaway’ came sneaking through the speakers. I heard the “why why why why why” and knew we had to at least try and cover it. We got through it on the first try, but then again what do you expect with only 6 chords. Rock On.

The Fray

November 16th, 2006

I saw the Fray last night! That makes twice for me and both times they rocked the house. However, it’s hard to compare last night’s show with their last at the HOB Sunset where John Mayer was their encore guest… yes, the John Mayer. I’ve never screamed like a girl before… until I was 10 feet away from Mr. Mayer. As of Tuesday I have applied for my final semester at CSUN. It’ll be good to leave but I’m going to miss the security and solidarity of university life. Also, you’ll soon be seeing a link for a YouTube video of me collaboratin’ with Kris Moise of England (if he accepts the offer), so keep your eyes peeled. Rock On.

Nearing the End

October 29th, 2006

Well once again it’s been awhile since my last entry so I’ll do the quick update. I’ve finally gotten caught up with school. The site may be changing to cater more toward an online portfolio of sorts. In addition, Dad’s birthday was Saturday + Grampa’s birthday on Tuesday = one of the most delicious weekends ever (Buca di Beppo’s and Indo Cafe). I’m feeling the end of my career at Applebee’s is nearing (7 years and counting) as well as my tour of CSUN! I’m going into my last semester for my BA in Cinema and Television Arts with an emphasis in Multimedia! Our planned trip to Europe will be executed in T-Minus 11 months. I’m a Cancer. I like long walks on the beach. Fun size Mr. Goodbars are my favorite candy. My jaw makes this annoying clicking noise every ti… Ah heck, that’s enough. Rock On.

‘Day’ Fire Approaches

September 24th, 2006

So tonight was the first night I actually saw flames of the Day fire from Simi. Around 10:30 PM I was driving West on Royal Avenue and caught a glimpse off in the Moorpark direction. It’s still pretty far away but it just gets me thinkin’ about the past couple Octobers. It’s got that potential to cross us, and if it does, at least it’ll be some kind of action. It gets so boring here. Rock On.

Hader is Next Ferrel

September 24th, 2006

I’m gonna go ahead and say it… I think Bill Hader is gonna be the next Will Ferrell. It’s hard to see on SNL but you can just tell this guy’s got talent. He covers all the bases but unfortunately is a bit under-appreciated to make it as of yet. But you all watch, he’s gonna be huge. And you can all rememeber good ol’ J-Man as being one of the first to make the call. Rock On.

The Office and Earl Premiere

September 22nd, 2006

So tonight was the season premiere for a bunch of shows, namely The Office and My Name Is Earl. First up was Earl and I was just not satisfied with this episode. It just wasn’t as funny as they usually are. Jaime looked amazing as ever, but that’s a given. The Office had me rolling. I couldn’t believe how deep Michael kept digging himself and of course the icing on the cake was Michael’s attempt at retribution, hilarious..experience.. oh, and that second layer of icing: Gaydar. Rock On.

The New JME is the Old JME!

September 21st, 2006

Okay, the site format has changed. I’m hopping on the blog-wagon as it were. I was originally planning on revamping the entire site but after a few late nights of frustration and almost overdosing on wheat thins, I scratched my head and thought to myself… “Why must you fix what isn’t broken, Justin?” So, basically it just got a small little change: There is a brand new photos section, the news has become a blog-style section, and there is an RSS feed if you feel so inclined to know what I have to say without having to return. So enjoy the new site, check back for updates, they’re random now. Just like me. Rock On.
